Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To understand the anatomical characteristics of the intertubercular groove and it’s clinical significance. METHODS: 100 healthy adults and 24 patients with biceps long head tendon dislocation were measured by ultrasonography respectively. Measurements of intertubercular groove included of medial angle(α), lateral angle(β), curve distance(C)from greater tuberosity to lesser tuberosity. The type of intertubercular groove were classified with α. RESULTS: The mean α, β and C on left side were 63.77°±11.25°,53.22°±10.97°,12.9±0.07mm, that on right side were 62.88°±10.55°,52.51°±10.94°,15.6±1.15mm, respectively in normal group. There was no statistically significant difference in these parameters between the left and right sides (p> 0.05).The α, β and C were 32.17°±12.29°,31.41°±8.21°,22.7±0.93mm respectively in dislocation group, it’s showed a significantly decrease of α,β,but increase of C compared with normal group. There was also statistically significant difference of type between two groups (p< 0.01). CONCLUSION: Sonography was as an effective method for evaluation of the dimensions of the bicipital groove.
